I would love to say I'm not crazy and that I only shop once or twice a week, but it's just not true. I live 5 minutes away from a 10 block strip of stores, so it's really easy to go from store to store and it's really easy to run out and just pick up 1 or 2 good deals.

I count the week as starting on Friday since that's when the flyers come out so this week I've been to Walmart (Friday), Sobeys & SDM (Saturday), and London Drugs & Coop (Sunday). In total I've probably spent 4 hours shopping. Normally this would be spread out more throughout the week but because of Halloween we will be busy 3 nights this week so I crammed it all in to the weekend.

Am I extreme or do others shop this much too?

OTTAWA - Kellogg Canada has recalled one of its most popular brands of cereal due to pieces of metal being found in the packaging.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the company is recalling most sizes of Mini-Wheats brown sugar and original frosted cereal sold nationwide.
The country's food safety watchdog says pieces of potentially harmful metal were found in the cereal.
The products have best-before dates between April 1 and Jul. 29, 2013.
The CFIA issued the recall with little fanfare on Oct. 7 and has not reported any injuries since.
Butcher Dude: "What is Sobeys doing?"
Rep Dude: "Over the next 7-8 months they are going to lower the price of almost every item in their store by 50% at least and keep it that way."
Butcher Dude: "Well, we've been hearing rumours of grocery wars coming and that would do it!"

So.....what do you make of this convo? I noticed that Sobeys has dropped a ton of prices last week and this week as well. But 50%?? That would basically put them on a par with their Food Basics stores. Too good to be true or totally possible? Grocery wars?

Hello all:
I am interested in reviewing the Loblaw Company policy on coupons. I looked, but don't believe it is on this site?? Or does anyone know how they work??? Here is the reason I ask:

I was advised that my local community No Frills has a policy of
one coupon per product, and that you are only allowed one of the same product with a coupon, per day, per person.

The VH Steamers coupons that I have, have zero rules on them. Yet, I was only allowed to use one of them, and one of the ones that came out in the insert the other day, --> even though I bought 8 VH Steamers, expecting to get a great deal with only $1.00 off each, as they do not allow stacking.

I guess I am just getting annoyed as *(^&*%&*%&* with peoples/stores behaviour towards coupons.
I went to my local Sobey's tonight, after buying a Nestle ice tea 12 cans, like someone posted about. It had the "next case free" - and so at Sobey's I bought one, and then came in and out twice more. So only three in total. Yet, it is like I am robbing a bank. I was even told by the cashier, whom I know well, that this probably isn't even legal.

Augh...... it is hard to remember that shopping is not to be emotional!~

So, anyone know their policy? And can each store set their own?

This week it was Old Spice Fresh bodywash 2/$5. I used the $2 coupons from Charmin packs (last year's, I think) and got 4 for $0.50 each!

Loblaws Removing Artificial Colours & Flavouring from PC Products

In response to a consumer shift towards healthier eating, Loblaws has announced that they will be removing all artificial colours and flavouring from their President's Choice line of products.

All artificial colours will be removed by the end of this year, and all artificial flavours will be phased out by the end of 2013.

"We are focused on food and committed to taking the lead on those issues of importance to Canadians. We're also thinking more strategically about corporate social responsibility and the areas in which Loblaw can have the greatest impact," says Ian Gordon, senior vice president of Loblaw Companies Limited.

Galen G. Weston, executive chairman of Loblaw Cos. Ltd., made the announcement at the company's annual general meeting Thursday, reports the Globe and Mail.

According to Health Canada, food labels are required to declare whether or not a product contains artificial flavouring, in both official languages. Artificial colourings are a bit of a grey area, with the CBC reporting in 2010 that Health Canada says labels should be clearer but legislation hasn't changed as of yet — although many manufacturers already voluntarily list these ingredients.

The move makes Canada's biggest grocer the first in the country to take such wide-spread action on the issue.

"With an increased focus on health and wellness, we take our role in empowering customers to make healthier choices and lead healthier lifestyles very seriously and one of the best places to start is by making sure that our own portfolio of products is the best that it can be," says Gordon.

PC products that will change include the Blue Menu, Organics and Green lines. The company's No Name brand will not be affected.

The President's Choice Zoo Animals in the image above are just one example of a newly formulated product containing no artificial colours or flavours.

Why DOESN'T Canada Upgrade Its POS Machines?

As most of us are aware, coupons are scanned automatically at cash registers in the US -- that's the whole point of having unique barcodes and UPCs, as far as I can tell.

In Canada, the cashiers enter them manually, and that's because the POS machines are not "set up" to read the coupons. As a result, the process is incredibly inefficient and time consuming by comparison.

My question is, why the heck don't we make the switch? I realize that Canada has a smaller population than the US, and we also have a proportionately smaller couponing population, but seriously? It's not like US ALWAYS had their systems like now -- surely at some point they had to upgrade as well.

Do you think we're ever going to get to the point that we will have our coupons scanned? Do you think that Target's impending arrival into Canada is going to make a difference (we didn't see one when Walmart did!)?
